History & Heritage

Boot Ranch was designed by PGA legend Hal Sutton (with Jim Lipe) and opened in 2006 north of Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country. Sutton carved a par-72 layout measuring 7,155 yards through the property\'s ridges, canyons, and Palo Alto Creek.

The course is the centerpiece of an exclusive residential community, ranked among the top residential courses in the country. Sutton himself said "you can learn everything about the game at Boot Ranch." The back nine (especially holes 13-18) is considered among the finest consecutive-hole stretches in Texas.

Signature Holes

Hole 10 Par 4 · 364 yards

The standout hole — a late dogleg right split by a creek with Roos Falls, creating a jaw-dropping visual and strategic challenge. The waterfall adds dramatic beauty to a genuinely demanding par 4.

What to Expect

Firm, fast greens on a layout following natural Hill Country terrain. Many elevated tees provide sweeping Pedernales Valley views. The back nine is notably stronger than the front. The course demands finesse and accuracy over distance.

Smooth elevation changes, demanding bunkers, and large undulating greens. Bump-and-run shots around the greens are effective on the firm turf.

Private — membership or member invitation required. Fredericksburg\'s wineries and German heritage dining are nearby.

Playing Tips

This is an accuracy-over-distance layout. The ridges and canyons reward precision and punish wayward shots.

Firm, fast conditions mean bump-and-run approaches are effective. Don\'t automatically reach for the lob wedge.

From elevated tees, the ball flies and rolls further than expected. Club down accordingly.

Sutton also designed a 34-acre short-course practice facility — use it to warm up.
