History & Heritage

Colleton River Club\'s Dye Course was designed by Pete Dye in 1998, complementing the existing Jack Nicklaus course (1991) to create a 36-hole private community along the Chechessee River and Port Royal Sound near Hilton Head. Consistently ranked among South Carolina\'s top private layouts.

Dye placed many small bunkers in visually intimidating but sometimes strategically irrelevant positions — a classic Dye mind game. The links-style design with holes raised above the landscape feels like a proper links with firm, fast conditions. Over half the holes feature open water and marsh views.

What to Expect

A links-style Dye design with holes raised above the landscape, separated by mounding. Tidal marsh provides a constantly changing backdrop. Firm, fast conditions. Wind off Port Royal Sound is the major variable.

The club also features an Augusta National-style par-3 course. The Dye Clubhouse wraparound porches overlook the finishing holes with Chechessee River and marsh views.

Private — 36-hole community with Nicklaus and Dye courses.

Playing Tips

Wind off Port Royal Sound changes direction and intensity rapidly on exposed holes. Trust your yardages over your eyes — Dye\'s visual deception is deliberate.

Small decorative bunkers can distract from the real hazards. Focus on the actual strategic elements.

The slope of 145 from the tips confirms this is a stern test.
