CommonGround Golf Course

Denver, Colorado

Public Course · 18 Holes · Par 72 · 7,336 yds · $40–$70 · 4.3

A Tom Doak municipal design in Aurora, CommonGround proves that world-class golf architecture and public accessibility are not mutually exclusive. The links-influenced layout features firm, fast conditions, creative green complexes, and Front Range mountain views — all at municipal pricing.

History & Heritage

CommonGround was designed by Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design, opening in 2009 in Aurora. Doak transformed a former Air Force base course into a model public facility that serves as home of the Colorado Golf Association.

The USGA hosted the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship here. Doak was given an uninspiring flat site and created what many consider the model for metropolitan public golf architecture.

CommonGround handles about 40,000 rounds annually at municipal pricing, proving world-class design and public accessibility are compatible.

Signature Holes

5
Hole 5 Par 4 · 430 yards

A strategic par 4 with multiple tee options. Doak's creative green complex rewards precise approaches.

11
Hole 11 Par 3 · 200 yards

A challenging par 3 with firm conditions demanding a well-struck tee shot and Doak's characteristic contours.

14
Hole 14 Par 5 · 560 yards

A risk-reward par 5 with strategic bunkering. Firm conditions allow long hitters to reach in two.

18
Hole 18 Par 4 · 445 yards

A strong finisher with Front Range mountain views framing the approach.

What to Expect

A links-influenced layout with firm, fast conditions unlike typical Colorado courses. Doak's green complexes reward imaginative shot-making. Front Range views provide a scenic backdrop.

At 7,336 yards at altitude the ball flies far. Walking is easy on the flat terrain.

Playing Tips

Use the ground game. Run approach shots onto greens rather than flying them. Firm surfaces bounce aerial attacks through.

Denver altitude adds 10-15 percent to carry distances. Adjust club selection on par 3s especially.
