History & Heritage

EagleSticks Golf Club opened in 1990, designed by Ohio native Dr. Michael Hurdzan on the former McClelland horse farm near Zanesville. It was a runner-up for Golf Digest's Best New Public Course in 1991 and rated the number one public course in Ohio by Golf Digest in 1997.

Often described as Augusta National in miniature, EagleSticks packs tremendous variety into a compact par-70 layout of just 6,408 yards. Hurdzan used the natural Appalachian foothill terrain to create dramatic elevation changes and creative green complexes.

The club specializes in stay-and-play experiences and is located near sister course Virtues Golf Club, giving visitors two of Ohio's finest public courses in a single trip.

What to Expect

EagleSticks delivers creative affordable public golf through rolling Appalachian foothill terrain. The par-70 layout is short at 6,408 yards but strategic design and elevation changes make it more demanding than the yardage suggests.

Stay-and-play packages with nearby Virtues Golf Club make it an excellent golf trip destination in southeast Ohio.

Playing Tips

Accuracy trumps distance. The layout does not demand long drives but punishes wayward shots. Focus on position over power.

Pay attention to elevation changes for club selection. Downhill holes play shorter while uphill approaches may need an extra club or two.
