A Pete Dye design on the historic Ford Plantation estate south of Savannah, this exclusive course winds through Lowcountry landscape along the Ogeechee River. The former winter retreat of Henry Ford features dramatic marsh carries, ancient live oaks, and old-South charm.

History & Heritage

The Ford Field & River Club (formerly Ford Plantation) spans 1,800 acres along Georgia\'s Ogeechee River on land Henry and Clara Ford purchased in the 1930s as their Lowcountry winter retreat. Pete Dye designed the course in the mid-1980s, later returning for a significant redesign that softened his trademark severity. Dye called it his "Finest Southern Links."

The club has hosted the Georgia Open six times. The front nine plays through Lowcountry parkland with mature oaks; the back nine transitions to open links-style holes along the river and marshland. No tee times required — members play at will.

Signature Holes

Hole 17 Par 3 · 146 yards

The most photographed hole — a downhill par 3 to an offset, elevated green guarded by deep bunkers. Miss the green and recovery is extremely difficult. Accuracy is everything.

What to Expect

The front nine plays through Lowcountry parkland. The back nine projects onto an open isthmus into the Ogeechee River, creating dramatic links-like holes with water and marsh views on all sides. Alligators bask along the banks.

Dye\'s redesign made it gentler than his typical fare while preserving strategic interest. The 1,800-acre property also offers a deepwater marina, horseback riding, and sporting pursuits.

Private — members and guests only.

Playing Tips

Marsh-side holes demand precise club selection, especially in wind. Course management matters more than distance.

Watch for soft lies near marshland edges and drainage areas.

The back nine\'s links character is dramatically different from the parkland front. Adjust your expectations at the turn.
