History & Heritage

Granite Links opened in 2003, built atop two former landfill sites and old granite quarries south of Boston. An estimated 900,000 truckloads of material from Boston\'s Big Dig project helped shape the terrain — one of the most remarkable land reclamation stories in golf.

Designed by John Sanford, the 27 holes were built piecemeal over a long period as land became available. The result transformed an environmental liability into a premier public golf destination just seven miles from downtown Boston.

The elevated terrain creates spectacular panoramic views of the Boston skyline, Blue Hills Reservation, and Harbor Islands simultaneously.

On the Granite nine — features dramatic quarry rock walls framing the hole, with elevated tees offering panoramic Boston skyline views. The quarry features create a visual experience unlike any other course in New England.

What to Expect

Three nines (Granite, Milton, and Quincy) playable in any 18-hole combination. Plenty of hills and elevation changes create an athletic round with significant uphill and downhill shots. Dramatic quarry rock walls and old quarry faces frame several holes.

The Boston skyline views are genuinely spectacular — among the best urban panoramas from any golf course in America. The on-site Tavern restaurant also takes advantage of the views.

Some holes have quirky features born from the site\'s industrial past.

Playing Tips

The hilly terrain means many uneven lies. Solid ball-striking fundamentals are essential.

Wind can be a factor on the exposed, elevated holes. Club selection must account for both wind and elevation changes.

Club up on uphill approaches more than you think — the elevation is deceptive.

Local knowledge helps with the quirky features from the site\'s industrial past.
