Hobble Creek Golf Course
Springville, Utah
A William Neff design tucked into a narrow canyon in Springville south of Salt Lake City, Hobble Creek is widely considered one of the most scenic affordable courses in Utah. The canyon routing features creek crossings, mature cottonwood trees, and dramatic mountain walls that create a secluded and memorable golf experience.
History & Heritage
Hobble Creek was designed by William F. Bell (architect of Torrey Pines) and opened in 1973 in a stunning canyon setting east of Springville. Bell reportedly said only a handful of his worldwide designs possessed a setting as perfect as this canyon. Municipally owned by Springville City.
The front nine is more open; the back nine narrows as the canyon closes in, with Hobble Creek winding through as a natural hazard. Peak beauty arrives in late September-October when canyon foliage transforms the layout.
Signature Holes
Significant elevation drop from tee to green set against the dramatic canyon backdrop — one of the most visually striking short holes in Utah.
What to Expect
Par 71, just over 6,400 yards in a narrow canyon. Fast, deceptively sloped greens on the open front; tighter corridors on the back nine as the canyon closes. The canyon runs 10-15 degrees cooler than the valley floor in summer.
Walking 18 costs ~$28-35 — one of Utah\'s best values. Often called "Utah\'s best-kept secret."
Playing Tips
Stay below the hole — greens are fast and break more than they appear.
The back nine demands accuracy as fairways tighten. Canyon wind channels unexpectedly.
