History & Heritage

Kittansett Club sits on a peninsula jutting into Buzzards Bay in Marion, Massachusetts, founded in the early 1920s. The club engaged both Donald Ross and William Flynn; they ultimately went with Flynn\'s plans, but founding member Frederic Hood personally led construction and refined the course over two decades, blending American and British design elements.

Kittansett hosted the 1953 Walker Cup and the 2022 U.S. Senior Amateur. Ranked among the top courses in Massachusetts, it consistently appears on national top-100 lists as one of the finest Flynn designs in existence.

Signature Holes

3
Hole 3 Par 4 · 380 yards

A standout seaside hole in the celebrated stretch from holes 3 through 8 that runs along Buzzards Bay. Constantly shifting wind directions across these waterfront holes create a different challenge every day.

What to Expect

A windswept, links-influenced experience with ocean views throughout. Flynn\'s out-and-back routing means holes constantly change direction relative to the prevailing Buzzards Bay breeze. The compact par-71 layout (roughly 6,600 yards) uses wind and strategic bunkering as the primary defense.

Firm fescue conditions and a rocky Massachusetts coastline setting create a playing experience closer to the British Isles than typical New England parkland golf.

Strictly private — one of the finest clubs in New England.

Playing Tips

Wind management is the primary skill tested. Club selection can swing two or three clubs depending on conditions off Buzzards Bay.

Ground-game approaches are rewarded — Flynn designed many greens to accept running shots.

Keep the ball below the hole. The greens have subtle, wind-exposed slopes that punish anything above the pin.

The holes 3-8 waterfront stretch is the heart of the course — save your best golf for this stretch.
