History & Heritage

Langdon Farms opened in spring 1995, built on the 63-year-old Langdon family farm south of Portland. The land was originally worked by James Edgar Langdon and Marie Beck, German emigrants who arrived in 1887. Designed by John Fought (1977 U.S. Amateur Champion, two-time PGA Tour winner) and Bob Cupp (15 years as Nicklaus\'s senior designer, Golf World Designer of the Year 1992).

Brothers Chris and Tom Maletis purchased the course outright in 2003 and continue to run it as a family business. Ranked No. 1 best public course by the Portland Business Journal (2010) and Top 10 in Oregon by Golfweek. Has hosted USGA U.S. Open qualifying.

Signature Holes

9
Hole 9 Par 4 · 420 yards

A demanding par 4 where deep pot bunkers guard the approach to a well-contoured green. The links-influenced mounding and fescue rough frame every shot — representative of the course\'s character throughout.

What to Expect

A links-influenced public layout at 6,931 yards, par 71. Deep pot bunkers, thick rough, short-cropped fairways, and large water hazards define the challenge. The flat agricultural terrain is shaped into rolling mounds and ridges to create visual interest and strategic variety.

Spacious fairways invite aggressive driving, but the greens are well-defended by bunkering. Wind is a regular factor on this open, exposed Willamette Valley layout.

Public-only policy maintained throughout its history. Located 15 miles south of downtown Portland.

Playing Tips

Deep bunkers are the primary defense — avoid them at all costs, especially around the greens.

The rough is thick and punishing. Accuracy off the tee pays dividends over distance.

Greens are well-contoured — take time to read them carefully.

Wind on this open farmland layout can be a significant factor. Check conditions before exposed shots.
