History & Heritage

Pinehills Jones Course opened in 2001 on 300 acres of glacially carved terrain in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Designed by Rees Jones — "The Open Doctor" known for his U.S. Open renovation work — the layout evokes historic New England golf through pine barrens reminiscent of the region\'s oldest courses.

The Jones Course shares a clubhouse with a companion Nicklaus Design course, making Pinehills one of New England\'s premier daily-fee facilities. The glacial terrain creates natural amphitheaters and significant elevation changes through pitch pines and scrub oaks.

Signature Holes

14
Hole 14 Par 4 · 420 yards

A demanding par 4 through the pine barrens corridor. The tight, tree-lined fairway demands accuracy while the sandy, firm conditions create a classic New England feel. Representative of the course\'s championship character.

What to Expect

Classic Rees Jones design: challenging for experts yet enjoyable for all skill levels, with deep respect for the natural landscape. Pine-lined fairways create seclusion on every hole. The glacial terrain produces significant elevation changes and firm, fast conditions on sandy soil.

The Jones Course is rated the more challenging of the two Pinehills layouts. Five tee sets range from 5,185 to 7,243 yards.

Plymouth\'s proximity to Cape Cod makes it a strong addition to any golf trip through southeastern Massachusetts.

Playing Tips

Missing fairways is the cardinal sin — the pine barrens and native areas are extremely penal. Accuracy off the tee matters far more than distance.

The sandy soil creates firm, fast conditions. Expect extra roll on fairways and firm greens.

The undulating greens require careful reading. Don\'t assume flat putts — the glacial terrain creates subtle slopes throughout.
