Midway, Utah
Built on the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics cross-country venue in the Heber Valley, Soldier Hollow Gold is a Gene Bates design at 5,600 feet elevation with sweeping mountain views. The 7,598-yard championship layout through open meadows and sagebrush offers a links-like mountain experience at outstanding public value.
History & Heritage
Soldier Hollow Gold was designed by Gene Bates and opened in 2004 — the only U.S. golf course built on a Winter Olympics venue (2002 Salt Lake City Games Nordic events site). Sits at approximately 6,000 feet in the Heber Valley. Part of Wasatch Mountain State Park.
Hosted the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship — the longest setup (7,660 yards) in that event\'s history. Every par-4 on the card is at least 400 yards from the tips. Treeless, wide-open terrain with 150 white-silica sand bunkers.
Signature Holes
One of three back-tee par 4s stretching to 490+ yards. The relentless par-4 length through open mountain meadows with sagebrush and bunkers defines the Soldier Hollow championship experience.
What to Expect
Treeless mountain terrain with 150 bunkers, native scrub oak, and open meadow fairways. Wind exposure is a major factor. At 7,598-7,719 yards from the tips at altitude, it is one of the longest courses in Utah.
Public at $40-75 — outstanding value for a U.S. Amateur host venue.
Playing Tips
Altitude adds distance but relentless par-4 length demands accuracy. Wind on the treeless layout is constant.
Play appropriate tees — the course punishes ego from the tips. Large contoured greens require lag putting.
