Southern Highlands Golf Club
Las Vegas, Nevada
An RTJ Jr. design in the master-planned Southern Highlands community south of the Strip, this private club has been enhanced by Jack Nicklaus and Steve Wynn. The 7,381-yard layout through desert terrain features dramatic elevation changes, pristine conditioning, and panoramic Las Vegas skyline and mountain views.
History & Heritage
Southern Highlands opened in 2000, co-designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his son Robert Trent Jones Jr. — one of only four courses the father-son duo ever designed together, and the elder Jones\'s final work before his death in June 2000 at age 93.
The strictly private club has served as home to the UNLV men\'s golf team and has hosted PGA Tour events. The canyon-style routing provides remarkable seclusion despite being minutes south of the Strip. The course plays up to 7,510 yards from the tips.
Jack Nicklaus and Steve Wynn have enhanced the layout over the years, adding to the already distinguished design pedigree.
Signature Holes
One of several holes descending into manufactured desert canyons, creating a sense of isolation. Dramatic elevation changes provide sweeping views of the Las Vegas valley below. Precise carries over desert washes are mandatory.
What to Expect
Immaculately conditioned with lightning-fast greens that roll true. The canyon-style routing creates remarkable seclusion — each hole feels isolated despite the proximity to the Strip. Wide enough to be fair but strategically bunkered throughout.
The layout descends into canyons created by aggressive grading, with dramatic elevation changes and Las Vegas skyline/mountain views. Desert elevation and dry air make the ball fly farther than expected.
Strictly private — one of the most exclusive clubs in Las Vegas.
Playing Tips
The greens are the primary defense — extremely fast with significant undulation. Every approach should land below the hole.
Desert elevation and dry air mean extra distance on every shot. Adjust club selection accordingly.
Caddies are available and highly recommended for first-time players given the canyon routing and fast greens.
The manufactured canyons create wind channels that can affect shots unexpectedly.
