History & Heritage

Valhalla was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986, built by Louisville businessman Dwight Gahm who envisioned a major championship venue for Kentucky. Ranked No. 1 in the state. Has hosted four PGA Championships (1996, 2000, 2014, 2024), the 2008 Ryder Cup, and the 2004 Senior PGA Championship. Selected for the 2028 Solheim Cup.

Tiger Woods won the 2000 PGA here in a legendary playoff against Bob May. Xander Schauffele won the 2024 PGA with a closing 65. The 2008 Ryder Cup saw a dramatic U.S. victory. The course underwent significant renovation before the 2024 PGA to play firmer and faster.
