History & Heritage

Ballantyne Golf Club is the golf amenity of The Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge in south Charlotte's prestigious Ballantyne development. Rees Jones — widely known as the Open Doctor for his work preparing US Open venues including Bethpage Black, Torrey Pines, and Pinehurst No. 2 — designed the 18-hole, par-71 layout on rolling Piedmont terrain, opening in 1998.

At 7,015 yards, Ballantyne stretches to genuine championship length while offering an inviting experience from forward tees. The course underwent an extensive renovation in the 2010s that introduced TifEagle Bermuda greens and refreshed the bunkering, maintaining its status as one of Charlotte's finest resort golf experiences.

Signature Holes

11
Hole 11 Par 4 · 440 yards

The strongest hole at Ballantyne Golf Club plays from an elevated tee down a rolling fairway with bunkers positioned to catch pushed and pulled drives. The approach must carry a run-off slope to a well-protected green.

17
Hole 17 Par 3 · 185 yards

A classic one-shotter from Rees Jones that plays over a water hazard to a green with no bail-out zone. Club selection is critical — carry the water and reach the proper quadrant of the green.

What to Expect

Ballantyne Golf Club provides the quintessential hotel golf experience — a Rees Jones design in excellent condition integrated with five-star resort amenities. The rolling Piedmont terrain gives the course a natural character that distinguishes it from flat suburban tracks.

Playing Tips

Ballantyne's TifEagle Bermuda greens are among the fastest in the Charlotte resort market — lag putting is essential. Jones designed several holes with a specific bail-out zone for approach shots — learn these preferred miss spots before your round.
