Barefoot Resort - Love Course

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Resort Course · 18 Holes · Par 72 · 7,047 yds · $65–$130 · 4.3

Part of the four-course Barefoot Resort complex, the Love Course is a Davis Love III design that brings a natural Lowcountry feel with live oak corridors, salt marsh edges, and classic Southern charm. It's one of four distinct architect designs at the resort.

History & Heritage

The Love Course opened around 2000 as one of four championship layouts at Barefoot Resort, alongside courses by Greg Norman, Tom Fazio, and Pete Dye. Designed by Davis Love III — a Carolina native and active PGA Tour star — the course draws on Lowcountry golfing traditions with Pinehurst No. 2-inspired green complexes.

Golf Digest ranked it No. 1 among the Top 50 Courses of Myrtle Beach in 2005, and it reached No. 53 on Golf Digest\'s America\'s 100 Greatest Public Courses in 2007. Barefoot Resort was named North America Golf Resort of the Year by IAGTO in 2017.

The Love Course is considered the most balanced of Barefoot\'s four layouts — generous off the tee but demanding on approaches.

Signature Holes

Hole 5 Par 4 · 400 yards

Part of the spectacular holes 3-7 stretch that incorporates recreated ruins of an old plantation home, giving the sequence an atmospheric Lowcountry character unique on the Grand Strand.

What to Expect

Wide, generous GN-1 hybrid fairways give confidence off the tee, but the real test comes on approaches to Champion UltraDwarf greens with subtle, Pinehurst-style runoffs. Rolling fairways, live oak corridors, salt marsh edges, and lush Lowcountry landscaping throughout.

The holes 3-7 stretch through recreated plantation ruins is the centerpiece. The course emphasizes approach-shot accuracy over raw distance — missing greens leaves difficult up-and-down situations with the crowned putting surfaces.

Plays 5,249 to 7,006 yards across four tee sets, slope up to 141 from the tips.

Playing Tips

Focus on approach-shot accuracy rather than bombing drives. The generous landing areas forgive tee shots, but missing greens leaves difficult recovery situations.

The Pinehurst-style crowned greens shed anything that misses the surface. Favor the center of greens rather than chasing pins, especially on first visits.

The Love Course is considered the most fair and playable of Barefoot\'s four layouts — ideal for groups with mixed skill levels.
