Bobby Jones Golf Course

Atlanta, Georgia

Public Course · 9 Holes · Par 35 · 3,525 yds · $25–$55 · 4

Named for Atlanta's most famous golfer, Bobby Jones GC is a lovingly redesigned 9-hole course and practice facility in Buckhead. The intimate layout offers a welcoming, walkable experience in the heart of the city.

History & Heritage

Bobby Jones Golf Course has the longest legacy in Atlanta golf. The original course opened in 1932 in Buckhead, named for Atlanta's most celebrated golfer, Grand Slam champion Bobby Jones, who was born and raised in the city. For over 85 years the course served as Atlanta's primary public golf destination.

In 2017, Atlanta City Council approved a total renovation, commissioning Bob Cupp to create an entirely new golf experience on the historic site. Cupp's bold solution was a reversible nine-hole course: the same nine holes played in two different directions, creating two distinct 18-hole rounds from a single routing. The redesigned course opened on November 5, 2018, and is one of only four reversible golf courses in the United States. Seven sets of tees from approximately 3,200 to 7,300 yards make it accessible to all skill levels.

Signature Holes

5
Hole 5 Par 4 · 420 yards

One of the strongest holes in the reversible configuration, the 5th plays to a well-positioned green using the natural Buckhead topography. In the reverse direction, the same corridor presents an entirely different strategic challenge.

9
Hole 9 Par 3 · 185 yards

The finishing hole of the front nine plays over a natural depression to a demanding green. In the alternate routing, this hole becomes a short par 4 that opens the back nine with an inviting birdie opportunity.

What to Expect

Bobby Jones Golf Course is Atlanta's most accessible and storied public golf experience. Bob Cupp's reversible design means regular visitors encounter a genuinely different course each time they play. The public pricing, wide range of tees, and historic Buckhead location make Bobby Jones a must-play for any Atlanta visitor.

Playing Tips

The reversible concept means that landmarks you used as aiming points on the front nine become misleading on the back nine — trust the yardage book. The seven tee options mean there is no excuse for playing from the wrong distance. The Buckhead location means parking can be limited on weekends — arrive early.
