Gallery Golf Club - South Course
Tucson, Arizona
A Tom Lehman and John Fought design in Marana that hosted the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. The South Course plays through pristine high Sonoran Desert terrain with mountain views and championship-caliber conditioning year-round.
History & Heritage
Gallery Golf Club\'s South Course was designed by John Fought (with Tom Lehman collaborating on the North Course) and opened in December 2003 as a private club within the Dove Mountain community near Marana. The South Course hosted the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in 2007 and 2008, and later hosted LIV Golf Tucson in 2023.
The North Course (Lehman/Fought, 1998) complements the South to form a 36-hole facility. The South has been nominated for Golf Digest\'s 100 Best. Part of the 63-hole Clubs of Dove Mountain complex.
Signature Holes
A massive downhill par 5 into the prevailing wind, well-bunkered with a lake in play. At 725 yards, it is one of the longest holes on any championship course. Widely cited as the signature hole.
A driveable short par 4 that tempts aggressive play but punishes misses. Risk-reward at its best — the green is reachable but well-defended.
What to Expect
The front nine starts downhill with panoramic canyon views. Surprisingly player-friendly for a championship venue, with imaginative layouts including par 3s with dual green options and wildly undulating putting surfaces.
Conditioning is consistently excellent. The high Sonoran Desert setting provides pristine terrain with mountain views throughout.
Private — access limited to members and guests.
Playing Tips
Take advantage of downhill holes on the front nine for extra distance.
Wind is a significant factor, particularly on the back nine. Check conditions before each shot.
Green reading is essential — the undulations are more severe than they appear. Spend time on the practice green.
The 725-yard 9th is a genuine three-shot hole for everyone. Don\'t force heroics.
