History & Heritage

Haig Point Club occupies 1,050 acres on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina, accessible only by ferry. International Paper developed the property in the mid-1980s and hired Rees Jones to build the course, which opened in 1987. Jones had free rein routing what he called one of the most spectacular pieces of ground in the Lowcountry.

Jones returned in 2007 to restore greens and sharpen the course. The renovation modernized playing surfaces while preserving the routing through maritime forest and along the waterways.

The island setting makes Haig Point one of the most secluded golf experiences on the East Coast, combining Rees Jones golf with a beach club, tennis, equestrian center, and fine dining.

What to Expect

The ferry ride to Daufuskie Island separates you from the mainland, and the maritime forest routing provides complete seclusion. Views of the Intracoastal Waterway and toward Savannah appear throughout.

The Rees Jones design at over 7,000 yards is a serious test with Lowcountry breezes adding an extra dimension.

Playing Tips

Coastal breezes are constant. Waterway holes are exposed and play differently depending on wind direction.

Bermuda greens are firm and grainy. Read the grain carefully as it affects both speed and break.
