History & Heritage
The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, North Carolina occupies a stunning site built around an enormous 400-acre lake that defines the course's character. Davis Love III — a major champion, Ryder Cup captain, and one of America's most respected course designers — created an 18-hole signature design on what was originally the site of Kannapolis Country Club, a nine-hole layout built around the city's water supply reservoir.
Love's 2005 renovation/expansion added four entirely new holes set amid mature hardwood forest while incorporating the best elements of the existing lakeside routing. The result is a 7,099-yard, par-71 course of dramatic variety. The finishing three holes — a 479-yard par 4, a 468-yard par 4, and a 242-yard par 3 — are considered among the strongest closing sequences in North Carolina.
Signature Holes
The first of Irish Creek's celebrated three-hole finish, the 16th plays along the lake shore with water threatening both tee and approach shots. Davis Love III designed this demanding hole to require the best shot of the round from both tee and fairway.
The ninth hole plays directly toward Kannapolis Lake, with the approach requiring a carry over a corner of the water to a well-guarded green. Lake views and precise shot demands make this the most photographed hole on the front nine.
What to Expect
Irish Creek is Kannapolis's finest golf achievement — a Davis Love III signature design built around a breathtaking 400-acre lake that makes every lakeside hole a visual spectacle. Love's routing blends dramatic lake holes with wooded interior holes for a varied, memorable experience.
Playing Tips
The lake at Irish Creek changes the visual perspective on many approach shots — the water appears closer or farther than it actually is. Trust your yardage book over your eyes. The closing three holes (16-18) are physically and mentally demanding — arrive there with reserves of both.
