TPC Piper Glen
Charlotte, North Carolina
A former PGA Tour venue, TPC Piper Glen is an Arnold Palmer design in south Charlotte. The course hosted the Wachovia Championship and combines classic Carolina Piedmont terrain with TPC-standard conditioning and strategic interest.
History & Heritage
TPC Piper Glen opened in 1987 in Charlotte, North Carolina, designed by Arnold Palmer and his longtime design partner Ed Seay. The course was built as part of the Piper Glen development in south Charlotte and earned TPC designation as a Tournament Players Club facility.
Palmer's design was recognized for its challenging but accessible character — 6,883 yards (rating 73.2, slope 130) with multiple tee positions. The course hosted the PGA Tour Champions Home Depot Invitational for multiple years, with Palmer himself serving as the tournament's host and ambassador. The 16th, 17th, and 18th holes form a celebrated finishing sequence.
Signature Holes
TPC Piper Glen's finishing hole is a demanding par 4 where precision off the tee is paramount. The approach plays to a well-bunkered green that reflects Arnold Palmer's philosophy of making the final hole both challenging and exciting.
The first of Piper Glen's celebrated closing stretch, the 16th is a long par 3 to a well-guarded green. Palmer's design makes the tee shot feel exposed and demanding, with bunkers positioned to catch anything short or right.
What to Expect
TPC Piper Glen is one of Charlotte's most prestigious private clubs — an Arnold Palmer signature design with TPC conditioning standards and a history of PGA Tour Champions events. The Arnold Palmer design philosophy emphasizes exciting, risk-reward architecture over pure difficulty.
Playing Tips
TPC Piper Glen's cart paths between some holes are long — budget extra time. The greens at TPC facilities tend to be faster than typical Bermuda courses. The 16-17-18 finishing stretch determines many rounds; arrive there with a clear head and a conservative game plan.
