Perched in the hills above Palm Desert at 1,500 feet elevation, Bighorn's Canyons Course offers sweeping Coachella Valley views and a dramatic Arthur Hills layout through boulder-strewn desert terrain. The club formerly hosted the Skins Game, attracting golf's biggest names.

History & Heritage

Bighorn Golf Club opened its Mountains Course (Arthur Hills, 1991) which famously hosted the Skins Game from 1992 to 1995, drawing legends Nicklaus, Palmer, and Trevino. The Canyons Course, designed by Tom Fazio, followed in 1997 as the second 18. The club also hosted the LPGA Samsung World Championship and U.S. Senior Match Play Challenge.

Perched at 1,500 feet elevation in the hills above Palm Desert, both courses offer sweeping Coachella Valley views. Lee Trevino has called Bighorn one of his favorite places. The club is consistently ranked among the top private golf communities in the country.

Signature Holes

7
Hole 7 Par 4 · 420 yards

An elevated tee shot offering panoramic desert-and-mountain views dropping into canyon terrain. Classic Fazio design with wide fairways flanked by enormous bunkers. The visual drama of the elevated tees is Bighorn\'s hallmark experience.

What to Expect

A more open, generous feel than the Mountains Course, with wide inviting fairways flanked by 113 enormous bunkers totaling 2.7 acres of sand. Classic Fazio trademarks throughout: bold shaping, generous corridors, and strategic decisions created by bunker placement rather than hazards.

Conditions are immaculate. The sweeping Coachella Valley views from 1,500 feet elevation are among the best in desert golf.

Strictly private — one of the most prestigious desert golf communities.

Playing Tips

The generous fairways encourage aggressive tee shots, but the enormous greenside bunkers punish imprecise approaches severely.

Club selection on downhill holes needs careful attention. Desert air and elevation drops add significant distance.

The 1,500-foot elevation means the ball flies even farther than at valley-floor courses. Adjust all club selections accordingly.
