The Inside Swing

Indian Wells Golf Resort - Celebrity Course

Palm Springs, California

Resort Course · 18 Holes · Par 72 · 7,050 yds · $75–$175 · 4.3

A Clive Clark design in Indian Wells, the Celebrity Course replaced the old Ted Robinson layout with a more modern, strategically engaging desert design. The course offers panoramic mountain views and one of the best resort-value experiences in the Coachella Valley.

History & Heritage

The Celebrity Course was designed by English architect Clive Clark and opened in November 2006, replacing the original Ted Robinson layout at Indian Wells Golf Resort. It was the first of the resort\'s two courses to be rebuilt (the Players Course followed). Both courses have been ranked among the Top 25 golf courses in California.

The resort is city-owned, giving it a public-access mission despite the upscale presentation. It hosts the annual City of Indian Wells Celebrity Pro-Am.

Signature Holes

17
Hole 17 Par 3 · 146 yards

A stunning short iron over a scenic pond fronted by a cascading waterfall, with the San Jacinto Mountains as backdrop. A visual showstopper — one of the most photogenic par 3s in the Coachella Valley.

5
Hole 5 Par 4 · 400 yards

A risk/reward par 4 where water and strategic bunkering force a choice between aggressive and conservative lines off the tee.

What to Expect

Water is the defining feature — 13 of 18 holes have water hazards via meandering streams, split-level lakes, and waterfalls. The front nine features water mostly along hole edges; the back nine brings it more directly into play.

Rolling, undulating fairways with lush landscaping give it a more "Eastern" feel than most desert courses. At 7,050 yards from the tips, it has real teeth but excellent value compared to comparable private-feel desert layouts.

City-owned with public access — one of the best resort values in the Coachella Valley.

Playing Tips

Club selection around water hazards is critical — know your carry distances cold. Water is on 13 of 18 holes.

The undulating fairways create uneven lies. Take one extra club on approach shots from awkward stances.

Afternoon valley wind can add 1-2 clubs on exposed holes. Morning tee times offer calmer conditions.

The greens are well-protected but receptive. Favor the center over chasing pins near water.
