Grande Dunes Resort Club
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
A Roger Rulewich design along the Intracoastal Waterway, Grande Dunes offers upscale resort golf with waterway views from several elevated tees. The layout features well-conditioned Bermuda fairways, bold bunkering, and one of the best practice facilities on the Grand Strand.
History & Heritage
Grande Dunes Resort Club opened in 2001, designed by Roger Rulewich — a longtime associate of Robert Trent Jones Sr. The course sits on elevated terrain with a high bluff overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, providing dramatic views from seven holes along the waterway.
Named "National Golf Course of the Year" by the National Golf Course Owners Association in 2009, and voted Myrtle Beach\'s second-best course by area PGA professionals. The course underwent a greens and bunker renovation in summer 2022, installing Champion bermuda greens.
Ranked among Golf Digest\'s America\'s 100 Greatest Public Courses. PGA Magazine called it one of the great golf clubs in the world. Grande Dunes serves as the home course for Coastal Carolina University athletics.
Signature Holes
A dogleg right with water running tee to green. Long hitters can go for the green in two with little margin for error — the water punishes any miss. The quintessential risk-reward hole.
Features one of the most daunting tee shots on the course plus a diagonally angled, two-tiered green stretching 57 yards deep. Being on the wrong tier leaves an extremely difficult two-putt.
What to Expect
Seven holes play along the Intracoastal Waterway on elevated bluffs, forming the course\'s most dramatic stretch. Expansive bermuda fairways with subtle undulations lead to large, modestly contoured Champion bermuda greens (renovated 2022).
The waterway holes provide stunning visual drama, but the inland holes are equally strategic and challenging. A 10,000-square-foot Mediterranean-styled clubhouse overlooks the 9th and 18th greens.
At 7,018 yards with bold Rulewich bunkering and waterway exposure, this is an upscale resort experience that plays like a private club.
Playing Tips
On Hole 4, an aggressive tee shot opens a two-shot opportunity, but water from tee to green punishes any miss severely. Know your carry distance before going for it.
Hole 16\'s two-tiered green stretches 57 yards deep. Landing on the wrong tier virtually guarantees a three-putt. Check the pin sheet and aim for the correct level.
Several greens are deeper than they are wide — precise distance control matters more than direction on many approaches.
The waterway holes are exposed to wind. Factor it into every club selection along the bluff.
