Pronghorn Resort - Nicklaus Course
Bend, Oregon
A Jack Nicklaus Signature design at Pronghorn Resort in the high desert east of the Cascades, this course offers panoramic views of Broken Top, the Three Sisters, and Mount Bachelor. The championship layout traverses juniper-studded lava terrain with pristine conditioning at 3,400 feet elevation.
History & Heritage
Oregon\'s only Jack Nicklaus Signature Course opened in 2003-2004 on the high desert plateau north of Bend, now part of Juniper Preserve alongside a Tom Fazio championship course. One of the first courses to embrace Central Oregon\'s volcanic sagebrush landscape rather than fighting it.
The spectacular back-nine stretch (holes 12-17 are all standouts) features views of the Cascades, Smith Rock, and surrounding buttes from nearly every hole. Semi-private — resort guests can book tee times.
Signature Holes
A Cape-style par 4 bending around a desert canyon — tempts big hitters to bite off as much as they dare over the hazard. Strategic risk-reward with Cascade Mountain views behind the green.
What to Expect
Firm-and-fast desert-style golf at 7,381 yards through volcanic terrain, native sage, and juniper. Cascade volcano panoramas throughout. The course looks open but punishes imprecision.
Semi-private resort access at $150-275. Ranked among Oregon\'s top courses consistently.
Playing Tips
Accuracy matters more than distance. Several holes reward laying back with hybrid rather than driver.
Nicklaus\'s trademark bunker complexes defend the greens. Big jump between tee boxes — choose wisely.
