The Surf Club Golf Course
Miami, Florida
The newest addition to Miami's elite golf scene, Gil Hanse designed this intimate 9-hole course at the Four Seasons Surf Club in Surfside. The seaside layout offers a refined, exclusive experience steps from the Atlantic.
History & Heritage
The Surf Club Golf Course represents one of the most exclusive and intimate new golf experiences in South Florida. Gil Hanse, the acclaimed architect of the 2016 Rio Olympics course, was commissioned to create a 9-hole course at the iconic Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club in Surfside, Florida.
The Surf Club itself has a legendary history — opened in 1930, it was the social headquarters of Miami Beach's elite, hosting the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Winston Churchill, and countless Hollywood celebrities. The hotel was redesigned by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier and reopened in 2017. Hanse's 2023 golf addition brings championship design sensibility to an intimate format that complements the luxury property's storied heritage.
Signature Holes
The mid-course challenge hole where Hanse's design philosophy is most evident: a strategic par 4 that rewards precise positioning over power, with the green complex featuring subtle contouring that characterizes his best work.
The finishing hole plays toward the Atlantic with ocean views from the approach. Hanse designed the closing hole as a risk-reward opportunity — the bold line to the tight pin can be attempted, but a safe approach to the center of the green is always prudent.
What to Expect
The Surf Club Golf Course is Miami's most exclusive golf experience — an intimate 9-hole sanctuary at one of the world's great luxury hotels. Gil Hanse's design brings architectural craft to a brief but memorable loop that captures the spirit of seaside golf. Ocean breezes, immaculate conditioning, and a historic setting combine to create something genuinely special.
Playing Tips
As a 9-hole course, The Surf Club is designed to be played twice through for a full 18-hole experience. The ocean breezes affect every shot — pay close attention to wind direction before club selection. Reserve tee times well in advance through the Four Seasons hotel as availability is extremely limited.
