The Fort Golf Resort
Indianapolis, Indiana
A Pete Dye public design at Fort Harrison State Park, The Fort offers championship golf through a historic military property. The layout winds through mature hardwoods on the former Army garrison with strategic water hazards, bold bunkering, and Dye's trademark visual challenge at accessible pricing.
History & Heritage
The Fort opened in 1997 on the grounds of the former Fort Benjamin Harrison U.S. Army post (purchased by the War Department in 1904, decommissioned and converted to an Indiana State Park). Pete Dye designed the 238-acre championship course with son P.B. Dye and Tim Liddy. Owned and operated by the State of Indiana.
Part of the Pete Dye Golf Trail. The adjacent Fort Harrison State Park includes a former WWII prisoner-of-war camp site. Military discount rates available.
Signature Holes
A dramatic closer — tee off from a platform over a ravine between trees, with a steep slope up to a well-protected green. Demanding and memorable.
What to Expect
Rolling, wooded terrain with ravines throughout. Dye\'s trademark elevated greens, deep bunkering, and subtly contoured putting surfaces. Back-to-back par 5s on holes 6-7 are unusual. Every hole has distinct character.
Public at $50-90 with stay-and-play packages at the Fort Harrison State Park Inn.
Playing Tips
Most greens are elevated and well-guarded — favor centers over attacking pins.
Manageable from forward tees despite elevation changes. Course knowledge matters for blind/semi-blind shots.
