The Inside Swing

Broadmoor Country Club

Indianapolis, Indiana

Private Club · 18 Holes · Par 72 · 6,800 yds · Members Only · 4.4

One of Indianapolis's most respected private clubs, Broadmoor was designed by noted Indiana architect William Diddel in 1924. The mature parkland layout features tree-lined fairways, subtle green complexes, and a classic Midwestern character that has been carefully preserved through multiple sensitive renovations.

History & Heritage

Broadmoor Country Club was established in the 1920s on sandy, open terrain on Indianapolis\'s northeast side — a Donald Ross original design (sometimes attributed to William Diddel, but the club and Golf Digest credit Ross). Over 100+ years, the original Ross design has remained largely intact with very few alterations.

The sandy soil base creates firm, fast playing conditions reminiscent of links golf — unusual for Indianapolis. Ross\'s trademark raised greens with subtle, deceptive contours are the primary defense.

Signature Holes

Hole 9 Par 4 · 410 yards

A classic Ross par 4 to a raised green with subtle contours that shed mis-hit approaches. The firm, sandy soil conditions and fall-off areas around the greens exemplify Ross\'s defensive philosophy.

What to Expect

A classic, understated Donald Ross layout at approximately 6,800 yards with bent grass throughout. Open terrain with firm, fast conditions on sandy soil. Raised greens with fall-off areas demand precise approach play.

One of the best-preserved Ross designs in Indiana. Strictly private — one of Indianapolis\'s most respected clubs.

Playing Tips

The Ross greens shed mis-hit approaches. Accurate distance control is everything.

Sandy soil means firm, fast conditions — plan for extra roll on fairways and around greens.
