Country Club of Birmingham - West
Birmingham, Alabama
A Donald Ross design in the heart of Birmingham, the Country Club of Birmingham's West Course is one of the most celebrated private courses in Alabama. Ross's strategic layout through Red Mountain terrain features his signature crowned greens, classic bunkering, and a mature parkland character that captures Golden Age golf at its finest.
History & Heritage
Country Club of Birmingham\'s West Course holds the unique distinction of being the only course in America shaped by three World Golf Hall of Fame architects: Donald Ross (original routing, 1926-27), Robert Trent Jones Sr. (1959-60 renovation), and Pete Dye (revisions in 1984 and 2009).
The dramatic Red Mountain terrain provides significant elevation changes. Repeatedly ranked on Golf Digest\'s 100 Greatest Courses list. The East Course at the same club is also a Ross design.
Signature Holes
One of the dramatic downhill shots exploiting the Red Mountain ridgeline. Ross\'s routing brilliance with Jones\'s bold bunkering and Dye\'s strategic wrinkles create three architectural voices in one unforgettable hole.
What to Expect
A 7,225-yard championship layout with significant Red Mountain elevation changes. Large Jones-era greens with Ross-style undulations and Dye\'s strategic wrinkles. Three architectural voices in one course.
Strictly private — one of Birmingham\'s most prestigious institutions.
Playing Tips
Elevation makes club selection tricky. Large greens have deceptive Ross-style undulations.
Position off the tee matters more than distance on the doglegs following the mountain terrain.
