Part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Oxmoor Valley's Ridge Course is a challenging RTJ Sr. design through the Appalachian foothill ridges west of Birmingham. The dramatic routing features 200-foot elevation changes, panoramic valley views, and bold RTJ Sr. bunkering that make it one of the most scenic and challenging Trail courses.
History & Heritage
Oxmoor Valley\'s Ridge Course opened in May 1992 as the very first site on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, built on former U.S. Steel mining land southwest of Birmingham. Designed by Roger Rulewich under the RTJ Sr. umbrella. Part of a 54-hole complex (Ridge, Valley, Short courses).
Roller-coaster elevation changes over 150 feet through imposing pine corridors. The par-3 12th green sits inside a former mining pit — a tribute to the area\'s industrial past. Consistently rated among the best public courses in Alabama.
Signature Holes
A dramatic downhill par 3 played from an elevated tee entirely over water. Plays 1-2 clubs shorter than listed due to the drop. Wind is a major factor.
What to Expect
Roller-coaster terrain through pine corridors on former mining land. Bold RTJ bunkering and panoramic valley views. The first course ever built on the RTJ Trail.
Public at $40-70 — outstanding Trail value.
Playing Tips
Club up on uphill approaches. On downhill holes, take less club and commit to smooth tempo. Thick rough punishes errant tee shots.
