San Jose Country Club
San Jose, California
One of the oldest clubs in the South Bay, San Jose Country Club features a Robert Muir Graves redesign through mature valley oaks and manicured parkland. The private club offers a classic California golf experience with tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and mountain views from elevated tees.
History & Heritage
San Jose Country Club was founded in 1912 — one of the oldest private clubs in the South Bay. Originally designed by Tom Nicoll (Scottish-born professional), renovated by A.W. Tillinghast in 1936, then redesigned by Robert Muir Graves. The club celebrated its centennial in 2012.
The Tillinghast connection (designer of Winged Foot, Bethpage Black) adds significant architectural pedigree to this classic California parkland club.
Signature Holes
One of the mountain-framed closing holes widely praised by members. Three distinguished architects across more than a century have refined the strategic routing.
What to Expect
Traditional parkland with mature trees, mountain views, and members-only atmosphere. Well-defended greens reward precision iron play. Walking comfortable on generally flat-to-rolling terrain.
Strictly private — one of the oldest continuously operating clubs in the South Bay.
Playing Tips
Tricky, well-defended greens reward precision iron play. The Graves redesign opened fairways but kept strategic bunkering.
