History & Heritage

The Palmer Course at La Cantera was designed by Arnold Palmer and opened in March 2001 on 225 acres of rugged Texas Hill Country terrain at one of the highest points in San Antonio. The course featured dramatic waterfalls, sweeping panoramic views of both the Hill Country and downtown San Antonio, and played 6-8 strokes harder than the neighboring Resort Course.

The Palmer Course closed in December 2021 amid redevelopment plans. The La Cantera Resort Course (designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf) remains open and operating, managed by Troon Golf at the Signia by Hilton San Antonio.

Note: The Palmer Course is currently closed. Visitors seeking the La Cantera experience should book the Resort Course.

The Resort Course plays at a more accessible difficulty level than the former Palmer Course and provides sweeping Hill Country vistas from the elevated terrain.

Playing Tips

For the open Resort Course: Hill Country terrain creates uneven lies and elevation changes throughout. Wind is common on the exposed hilltop routing.
