San Antonio Country Club

San Antonio Country Club was established circa 1904 by nine prominent businessmen, making it one of the oldest private clubs in Texas. A.W. Tillinghast designed the 18-hole layout along the San Antonio River in the Alamo Heights area.

A notable restoration using 1930s aerial photographs recreated Tillinghast\'s original design, including his characteristic rectangular greens. The routing features template holes modeled after North Berwick\'s Redan and Prestwick\'s Alps — classic links concepts adapted to the Texas parkland setting.

Tillinghast also designed nearby Brackenridge Park (1916) and Oak Hills CC, giving San Antonio a rare trio of Tillinghast designs.

A par-71 classic Tillinghast design at approximately 7,246 yards. Narrow, tree-lined fairways with flat-bottomed rectangular greens — a Tillinghast hallmark. The San Antonio River winds through the property adding both beauty and hazard. Twisted live oaks dominate the landscape.

The restoration to Tillinghast\'s original intent makes this one of the most authentic Golden Age experiences in Texas.
