History & Heritage

TPC San Antonio\'s Oaks Course opened in 2010, co-designed by Greg Norman with player consultant Sergio Garcia, at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort. The course has hosted the PGA Tour\'s Valero Texas Open annually since opening — one of the oldest events on Tour.

The Norman design departs from modern manicured tournament style, incorporating the natural scrubby Texas landscape with native grasses and rugged Hill Country terrain. Conditions are maintained to PGA Tour standards. The Valero Texas Open is extended through future seasons.

Sergio Garcia\'s involvement brought a player\'s perspective to the strategic shot values.

Playing Tips

Wind is constant on the exposed Hill Country terrain. Factor it into every club selection.

The native areas flanking fairways are penal. Course management off the tee is essential — missing fairways costs strokes.

The closing holes demand precision under pressure. Save your best golf for 17-18.

Firm, fast conditions mean the ball runs. Plan for extra roll on approaches.
